Communication Workshop for Libyan Municipalities Held in Hammamet
Middle East Development Network [MDN] delivered a training workshop on “Principles of Municipal Communication” for the benefit of Libyan local government officials from six Libyan cities. This activity has been realized in the framework of the “Local Council Administration and Legitimacy (LOCAL/Baladiyati) Program” implemented by Creative Associates International and funded by MEPI.
The training workshop was implemented on May 5-7, 2016 in Hammamet, Tunisia by the team of MDN consisting of President Mr Murat Daoudov, Dr Atef Rawahneh and Ms Rania A. Abdullah from Jordan. The activity aimed to provide general knowledge and skills necessary for the nascent Libyan local governments in the matters of communication, media and public relations in the municipalities. The workshop started with the announcement of the survey results conducted by Navanti Group in six Libyan municipalities. Dr Alex Zito from Navanti shared the survey that measured the state of the municipal communication and public relations efforts.
The mayors and communication department heads from six Libyan pilot municipalities that (Al Bayda, Gharyan, Sabratha, Sabha, Zwara and Tobruq) actively participated in the three days workshop that covered the matters of relations between municipalities and citizens, the communication strategies for different involved actors, the role of the municipal spokesperson and the techniques of connecting with the community.
In addition to the communication matters, Murat Daoudov also several presentations about the comparative models of the inter-governmental relations (IGR), as well as the inter-municipal cooperation (IMC) and the models of local government associations (LGA). The participants were awarded joint certificate by MDN and CAI, while various media also covered the event.
This workshop is a second training designed and delivered by MDN for the benefit of Baladiyati project, after the initial training on municipal administration and project management held in Jan 2016 in Istanbul.
On the other side, together with the delegation of Jordan Media Institute, MDN team also participated in the final ceremony of Arab TV and Radio Festival that was held with high level participation in Hammamet.
